The Wild Pear Tree - Nuri Bilge Ceylan (2018)

Hi there everybody! We invite you all to come enjoy Peng Chau island and our next movie night next 2nd of March. We will continue watching movies from Southern Europe. This time the country is Turkey and the movie is called 'The Wild Pear Tree' (2018) from the director Nuri Bilge Ceylan. The movie follows a young writer going back to his hometown and facing the challenges what await for him. The movie will have English subtitles. Is the first time watching a Turkish movie (and also the first one for me personally ) so come and enjoy!

Eternity and a Day - Theo Angelopoulos (1998)

Hello again! Happy New year to everyone! We invite you all to come enjoy Peng Chau island and our next movie night this Sunday 12st January. We will continue watching movies from Southern Europe. This time the country is Greece and the movie is called 'Μια αιωνιότητα και μια μέρα' or 'Eternity and a Day' (1998) from the director Theo Angelopoulos. The movie is an exploration on the meaning of life when one knows there is little time left. The movie will have English subtitles. Is the first time watching a movie with Greek language, so come and enjoy!

The Spirit of the Beehive - Victor Erice (1973)

Hello again! We are scheduling our next projection number 8 very soon! We invite you all to come enjoy Peng Chau island and our next movie night this Sunday 1st December. The movie happens in Spain after the Spanish Civil War. The movie is called "EL espíritu de la colmena" or "The Spirit of the Beehive" (1973) from the much appreciated director in Spain, Victor Erice. How is a world after a war? How is seeing it through the eyes of a young girl? Is the first time watching a movie with Spanish language, so come and enjoy!

Miracle in Milan - Vittorio di Sica (1951)

Hello everybody! I hope you had a great year :D The good weather is finally here, so we would like to invite you all to come enjoy Peng Chau island and our next movie night this Sunday 27th October. This one will be our first movie made in Italy, the movie is called "Miracolo a Milano" or "Miracle in Milan" (1951). The movie is a classic from the director Vittorio de Sica, a neorealist work in the Italian post-war era. It would also our first time projecting an European movie from the 1950's, so come and enjoy!

Redemption of the General - Leo Zhu (2021)


Hello everybody! I'm so happy to announce we are hosting a new series of movie projections this December :D Starting this Sunday 10th with projecting 4 different movies from young Hong Kong directors. (I will leave all the info of the directors down below) It's such a privilege to have such directors with us, so take the chance to come people! We will discuss with them their work and our thoughts after watching their work together.

Kisapmata - Mike de Leon (1981)

Hello again! Our last projection was great and we would like to repeat that! Our fifth gathering will be on Sunday 26th November. This time I chose a Filipino movie called "Kisapmata" or "In the Wink of an Eye" (1981) from the director Mike de Leon. This movie is family thriller classic from the 80s. It looks like a great movie to debate! If this is your first time coming to the projection, we have been watching movies from Asia, one for each country. This one will be our movie to close the "Asian Movies" cycle, so I hope you can come and enjoy it!

The Maternal Heart - Pham Nhue Giang (2011)

Hello everybody and have a happy Mid Autumn Festival! Since February we haven't had any movie. But now we are here, our fourth gathering. We will have our fourth event next Sunday 22th October. On this occasion I chose a Vietnamese movie called "Tam Hon Me" or "The Maternal Heart" (2011) from the director Pham Nhue Giang. I thought about this movie because it shows another side of the 'mum and daughter' relationship. I hope we can watch the movie together and share our thoughts about it. Im sure it will give many options to discuss.

Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives - Apichatpong Weerasethakul (2010)

Hello one more time everybody! Sorry to make you wait for such a long time for our third gathering. We will have our third event next Saturday 25th March. On this occasion I chose a Thai movie called "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" (1995) from the director Apichatpong Weerasethakul. I have been intrigued by the believe in reincarnation and how this idea still affects the everyday life of many people. Let's see how it goes from there and what can we take from the view together.

301/302 - Park Cheol-su (1995)

Hello again everybody! So happy to see many people joining the group recently. We will have our second event next Sunday 7th August. This time will be a Korean movie called "301, 302" (1995) from the director Park Cheol-su. Somewhere on the internet define this movie as a "food psychological thriller", fun enough? We will start the movie at 7pm till 9pm in the common area of the hostel The Mahjong, To Kwa Wan. Entry is free of charge. We want to encourage discussion about the movie and its theme afterwards. We will prepare some questions so we can debate about it together! You can bring your own food too. Also if you have more ideas on how to make our experience more fun, feel free to share it!

After Life - Hirozaku Kore-eda (1998)

Hello everybody! We would like to introduce you to our first event of Movie Screening HK Group. For this occasion we picked up the movie "After Life" (1998) from the director Hirozaku Kore-eda. The premise of the movie is "If you could choose a memory for eternity, what would it be?". We will start the movie at 7pm till 9pm in the common area of the hostel The Mahjong, To Kwa Wan. Entry is free of charge. We want to encourage discussion about the movie and its theme afterwards. We will prepare some questions so we can debate about it together! You can bring your own food too.
